Thai Vegan Steak with Jaew Dipping Sauce

Vegan Steak

2 seasonal mushrooms

Vegan Marinade

A clove of garlic

Vegan Jaew Dipping Sauce

2 Tbsp Tamarind paste

1 Tbsp crushed toasted rice

Half a shallot

A little bunch of coriander

1 Tsp of Lime Juice

Palm sugar

1 Tbsp Vegan fish sauce


Chilli Flakes



  1. Chop the garlic finely. Remove the stems from the mushrooms, taking care not to damage the heads.

  2. Coat the mushrooms with the marinade sauce and chopped garlic. Leave for 5-10 minutes.

  3. Heat up the pan to medium high heat.

  4. Gently fry the mushrooms until they are tender, around 2-3 minutes per side.

  5. Serve with the pan juices.

Jaew Sauce

Make the Jaew sauce by adding everything together. Taste the sauce and adjust for chilli and lime to your taste.
